Home Remedies For Vaginal Thrush

Stress, allergies, too much junk food and alcohol can all conspire to cause an imbalance in the flora of the gut, colon or vagina, causing the itching and soreness known as candida or thrush. Thrush is a fungal parasite, which can be stimulated by the contraceptive pill or by the use of antibiotics. Simple self-help includes avoiding synthetic underwear or tight jeans and avoiding sex while you have the infection

Home remedies for Vaginal Thrush

Eat a pot of live yogurt every morning or make up a breakfast of raw oats, live yogurt and orange juice. A weak solution peroxide in a glass of warm water, dabbed gently onto the affected area with a swab of cotton wool, will ease the itching.

Live yogurt contains friendly bacteria known as acidophil us, which combat vaginal yeast and other infections caused by this fungus. Put some on a tampon and insert into the vagina (remove within two hours).

Drink honey in cider vinegar each morning, and if you are on a course of antibiotics eat as raw garlic as you can take for up to a week - it counters most bacterial, fungal and viral infections. You can even place a peeled clove of garlic wrapped in a little gauze inside the vagina for a powerful local antiseptic effect - it stings like mad, so this one is not for the faint-hearted!

You could make up a douche from 600ml (1 pint) of boiled cooled water to which you have added two drops of lavender oil, or make a douche from chamomile or thyme tea.You can also use either of these mixtures in a shallow bath to ease the discomfort.

Use myrrh or tea tree oil diluted with a teaspoon of vodka and soak a tampon in the solution. Leave the tampon in for four to five hours once or twice a week.

Nasturtium is an age-old remedy for thrush because the flowers act as a natural antibiotic. You could make an infusion from the flowers and use it in a cool bath.
